November 10, 2016

Tick Tock!!!  Yikes....T minus 5 days and counting.....  Somehow the days are full and flying by and yet the 'to do' list doesn't seem to be getting any shorter.  I guess I gotta stop adding to it!  LOL!

Not too worried though as I know it will all come together in the end ....it always does.  And since both Lynda and I have decided to do carry on only again this trip, the packing won't take long at all!

Received our passports (with Visa's included) back from the Indonesian Embassy the other day so that is one major item crossed off the 'to do' list.  For those of you who might be interested...in order to stay longer than the usual 30 day tourist visa that is typically authorized by local immigration in Bali, we needed to pre-get a 60 day visa from the Embassy here prior to departure from Canada.  That special 60 day visa can then be extended by 30 days at a time once we are in Bali for up to a maximum of 6 months.  We're going to be there for 5 months so will have to get an agency to secure extensions for us mid Jan, mid Feb, and again in mid March.  It sounds worse than I think it will be.  Other than the approximately $50 CAD each extension will cost us I think it's just a matter of remembering to ask the agency to look after it for us.  Worst case scenario, it will mean a trip to the immigration office ourselves each month.

Another major item off my 'to do' list is suspension of cable and internet to my house for those 5 months and I'm happy to be able to say that by doing that I'll be saving almost $140/month!  Hmmmmm....what other luxury items could I spend that $$ on instead?  Hmmmmm....let me think.....Oh...I know!!  Weekly massages sound pretty darn good and in fact...with that much $$ to work with I could almost have a massage every other day for that amount!  I think I'm gonna LOVE Bali!  LOL  Although if I had that many massages....I'm not sure I'd appreciate them as much any longer so perhaps I'll find a few other luxury activities to spend some of that $$ on.

Our flight on the 15th leaves Kelowna in the evening and then we have a few hours in Vancouver before the next leg of the journey begins.  That leg will require 10 minutes shy of 13 hours in the air en route to Taipei where we'll have another few hours to stretch our legs and prep up for the final flight which will last about 5 1/2 hours.  That final flight will bring us into Denpasar where we'll be met by a car and driver who will take us the final hour to our new home in Ubud where I'm pretty sure I'll be ready to hit my bed for about 2 days of recovery after our 29 hour journey.

We're booked into an accommodation in the city of Ubud for 7 nights and if it turns out to be as good as it looks/sounds online (I found it on Air B and B) we'll extend it far beyond that.  The price is right at $200 CAD for 7 nights and since there are two of us sharing the room that $200 breaks down to just $100 each per week.  Not bad when you consider that the room is large with 2 beds on opposite sides of the room separated by a small living room area, a private full bathroom, a fridge and microwave in the room, a private patio leading out into the garden, and full breakfast served on our patio each morning.  Oh ya....and air conditioning.  Gotta have AC in the room when temps will be around 30 and humidity around 85% pretty much all the time.

Well folks....I think that's about all I've got for you until our adventure in Bali is underway so until sometime next week.....Pamit Nggih (yep, that means good bye in Bahasa, the local language, and I have no idea how that second word might be pronounced so that will be one of my firstBalinese lessons!)

till next time,
Lorrie & Lynda
